Here you'll find some of my stash of Ebooks and literature. Much of this stuff
came from elsewhere on the net but rather than leech someone else's
bandwidth, I'm hosting them here. Others I've scanned myself. Note: Titles without links are files that either I've yet to upload or are uploaded but the links are not yet edited into this page. Some of these are large and I do this over dial-up so progress is sometimes slow. Be patient. Enjoy |

(210kb) (1) Chemistry and Physics The Golden Book of Chemistry Experiments - (29MB) If one could point to a single book that put Americans on the moon, this would be it. There is literally no telling how many scientific and engineering careers were launched by this book, including mine. At the same time, if there is a single book, the fear of which represents today's pan-phobic panty-wetting cowards that masquerade as safety nazis, this book is also it. I imagine Ralph Nader fears this book as much as he did the Corvair. This book is reported around the net as having been banned. It wasn't. Book Banning hasn't come of age in the US. Yet. This book WAS purged from most all school and municipal libraries back in the 70s. The panty-wetter effect at work. A paper copy of this book is very hard to come by. Unfortunately my disappeared in the distant past. I've managed to snag a good scan, however and it is safely hosted here. Do your kids a favor (or yourself if you're under about 45), print this book out and work the experiments with them. After feeding and clothing them, this is the best thing you can provide for your kids. Well, that and taking them out of government schools so they can get an actual education.

Bridge Design Manual-Hydraulic Design-Missouri DOT.pdf
(532kb) Electrical and MechanicalThe Boy Mechanic Volume 1 - (18MB) A wonderful book of electrical and mechanical experimenting dating from the 40s. From the Gutenberg Project. I have the paper version of Volumes 2-4. I'll scan them when I can. The Boy Electrician - (40MB) A similar book but with more concentration on electricity. Another excellent hands-on book from the past. Metallurgy for Knifesmiths - (8MB) A wonderful, somewhat scientific book on metallurgy by John D. Verhoeven, Emeritus Professor, Iowa State University with a specific focus on knife Making. Edison Alkaline Storage Battery Bulletin 850 (738KB) - This is the
instruction manual for the original Edison Nickel-Iron storage battery.
Since this technology hasn't changed in 100 years, this information is still
relevant. Retrieved from
here and turned into a PDF.

Five Hundred and Seven Mechanical Movements.pdf
(18MB) Farming and RuralTimber Drying Manual - (20MB) What it says - how to dry wood. Hydroponics - (26MB) A 50s era book. Not pot-related. Aw shucks :-) Firewood Crops - (54MB) Growing firewood as a crop. Make your own Fertilizer - (1.3MB) How to make your own fertilizer. Given the current price of all petroleum-based products, this book might come in handy. Chainsaw Guide - (25MB) An old guide on the use of the chainsaw. Still relevant.
MedicalFinal Exit 3rd ed.pdf - (12.5MB) The ultimate self-help book. Military
112 gripes about the French.pdf
- (5.1MB) A nifty little pamphlet published in Paris in 1945 by the
'Information & Education Division' of the US Occupation Forces. It
provides an interesting snapshot of conditions in France in the immediate
post-victory time period. It also addresses some perceptions about the
WW-2 era French that have become embedded in modern thinking that might not
be correct. I still think they talked way too much and did way too
little in the run-up to WW-II but this pamphlet addresses some of the
reasons behind those perceptions. Nuclear

(1) Taken down 08/20/08 at the request of a fellow from
Boing with a rather officious sounding title of "Office of Internal
Governance Corporate Investigations/Intellectual Property Enforcement"
Bet that title doesn't attract many chicks in bars! Anyway, here's the
text of the note:
Good Morning, You know, Johnny, that kind of language really pisses a lot of people off. That might be the way you do things inside the military-industrial complex but out here in the civilian world, a bit more politeness gets the same thing done without making people mad. First off, an office has no attention for anything to come to. If something came to your attention then say so. Second, speaking in the third person really isn't very effective. It's as if you're afraid to take ownership of your request. Here's a rewrite of your memo that accomplishes the same thing: "Hi John, You have a document on your site named "Boeing Design Manual-Titanium Alloys BDM-1054 1998.pdf". That document belongs to us and we'd like for you to take it down. Sincerely, See? Two short friendly sentences gets the job done. You didn't accomplish a thing, though, since this file is all over the net, including places that won't be cooperative like I am. As I say at the top of this page, I'm simply offering stuff as a convenience to my readers without leeching bandwidth, stuff that is available elsewhere. |
